With storytelling in her DNA, Alexis J. Walker is currently writing a screenplay, a graphic novel, a Teleplay and recently finished a new stageplay. She recognizes that learning how to produce and direct her own work will be essential to her creative development. This Spring, Alexis will participate in career-enhancing workshops with filmmaker Ela Thier which are pre-requisites for participating in the Indie Film School’s Writing/Directing/Acting Workshop in Fall 2016. SBMA funds will enable Alexis to cover Spring workshop fees and travel.
BIO: Alexis moved to Philadelphia in 1999, and received her degree in Film/Video Production. For the next 13 years she worked in public and private education systems encouraging all around her to pursue their passions. In 2013, Alexis took a leap of faith and joined the creatives. Through writing, painting, curating, and community building, Alexis has found her calling as a hummingbird. Exploring and nurturing her own curiosity, she has created more in 3 years than she ever thought possible. She has curated an art show every August called Themeless, that has given a platform to dozens of artists, performers, and musicians, breaking the barriers between people that create and those that appreciate. Alexis is a volunteer DJ instructor with Girls Rock Philly. She also makes shea butter, wrote a play, and is writing the backstory of a new video game. Sometimes, she sleeps.
